ColorOS Design Lead Confirms No Imitation of Apple's Liquid Glass in Upcoming Version

Source: Date:

Earlier this month, rumors emerged from China suggesting that Oppo's ColorOS 17 would draw significant inspiration from Apple's Liquid Glass design language. The report indicated that ColorOS would adopt several elements while maintaining a less transparent aesthetic compared to Apple's implementation in iOS 26. Notably, Apple has also been moderating the transparency of Liquid Glass in the upcoming iOS 27 and offering a slider for user customization.

However, it appears that these rumors were unfounded. Today, Chen Xi, the design director of ColorOS, clarified on Weibo that ColorOS 17 will prioritize enhancing the core user experience rather than undergoing a major redesign. Additionally, the introduction of new features has been postponed; it remains uncertain whether they will be included in ColorOS versions 17.1 or 17.5, or if users will need to wait for ColorOS 18.

Chen also mentioned that some of Oppo's competitors might be leaning towards a design akin to Apple's Liquid Glass, but for now, Oppo does not plan to follow suit. This statement effectively concludes the speculation. What are your thoughts? Do you appreciate the current design of ColorOS, or would you prefer it to adopt a style similar to iOS?
