Insta360 has officially entered the handheld gimbal camera market with the launch of its new flagship model, the Luna Ultra. Co-engineered with Leica, this vlogging-focused camera features a dual-camera setup, paralleling DJI’s upcoming Osmo Pocket 4P.
The Luna Ultra is equipped with a primary 1-inch sensor that boasts an f/1.8 aperture and a 20mm equivalent focal length. Additionally, it includes a telephoto camera with an f/2.0 aperture and a 60mm equivalent focal length, offering up to 3x optical zoom, 6x lossless zoom, and 12x digital zoom.
One of the standout features of the Luna Ultra is its detachable 2-inch touchscreen display. This screen can be used as a remote monitor and controller, enabling users to frame shots and record from distances of up to 20 meters in HD resolution. The display can also be oriented in both portrait and landscape modes.
The handheld gimbal camera is powered by a 1,550mAh battery, which Insta360 claims can provide up to four hours of use. Additionally, it supports fast charging. As a gimbal camera, the Luna Ultra offers 3-axis mechanical stabilization and includes features like Deep Track 5.0 for effective subject tracking.
The Luna Ultra can record video at resolutions of up to 8K at 30fps, capture 4K footage at up to 120fps, and shoot slow-motion videos at up to 240fps in 4K. It also captures images with a maximum resolution of 37MP in UltraPhoto mode, and up to 200MP for panoramic shots.
This camera supports 10-bit video recording, offers Dolby Vision and I-Log, and comes with 47GB of built-in storage. It also supports microSD cards of up to 1TB in size. For audio, the camera features a four-microphone array.
The Insta360 Luna Ultra is available in Cosmic Black and Stellar White finishes, with the Stellar White version weighing 235g. Connectivity options include a USB Type-C port, Wi-Fi 6 on the main camera unit, and Wi-Fi 4 on the detachable display.
