Apple Is Testing iPhone Duo 2 Prototype With Under-Display Face ID

Source: Date:

Apple’s newly launched iPhone Duo is already drawing attention, but early reviews suggest the first-generation device has several limitations. One of the most common complaints is the placement and usability of its Touch ID sensor, which has pushed expectations for a more seamless biometric option on the next model.

Now, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple is testing the iPhone Duo 2 with under-display Face ID. The feature would address one of the biggest drawbacks of the current device by offering facial recognition without requiring a visible cutout or awkward fingerprint access.

Gurman said during his latest Power On podcast that Apple is evaluating Duo 2 prototypes equipped with the hidden Face ID system. However, the technology may still depend on Apple’s ability to shrink critical components such as the dot projector and infrared camera before the device can enter mass production.

In addition to under-display Face ID, the report suggests Apple may add the Action button to the iPhone Duo 2, another hardware feature missing from the current version. If both upgrades arrive, the next Duo could deliver a much more polished and premium user experience.
