Google Launches Fitbit Edge Fitness Tracker with AMOLED Display and Week-Long Battery Life

Google has entered the fitness tracker market with its latest offering, the Fitbit Edge. Bridging the gap between the Pixel Watch 5 and the Fitbit Air, this new device presents a lightweight and budget-friendly alternative to traditional smartwatches while introducing a vibrant display, which the screenless Fitbit Air lacked.

The Fitbit Edge is designed with a 1.34-inch AMOLED screen featuring always-on capabilities. With a slim profile of just 11.5mm and a lightweight aluminum build weighing 17.7 grams without the band, it is both stylish and comfortable for all-day wear.

A physical button located on the right side of the device allows for easy navigation. Unlike its counterpart, the Pixel Watch 5, the Fitbit Edge operates on a customized tile-based interface inspired by the Pixel Watch, featuring glanceable complications for quick access to information.

This interface is equipped to support various functionalities including Google Maps, media controls, call notifications, quick replies, as well as alarms and timers. It also consolidates essential health and fitness data, such as step counts, weather updates, sleep tracking, and heart rate monitoring.

The Fitbit Edge is versatile with support for over 50 exercise modes, offering real-time guidance, GPS tracking, and automatic activity detection.

For comprehensive health monitoring, the Fitbit Edge employs advanced sensors: red and infrared sensors for SpO2 measurements, electrical sensors for ECG readings, a PPG optical heart rate sensor, and a skin temperature sensor for far-field measurements.

Powered by the Ambiq AP5 MCU and paired with 64MB of NOR flash memory, the tracker boasts an IP68 rating, ensuring it is water-resistant up to 50 meters.

The Fitbit Edge is equipped with a 65mAh battery, claimed to last up to 7 days under typical usage conditions.

Available for pre-order in select regions, the Fitbit Edge is priced at $180. Consumers can choose from various color options including Matte Black Aluminum with an Obsidian band, Satin Silver Aluminum with a Fog band, Satin Pyrite Aluminum with an Olive band, and Champagne Gold with a Canyon band.

Additionally, a Stephen Curry Special Edition will be offered, featuring a Satin Pyrite Aluminum case and a unique band, priced higher at $220. The Fitbit Edge is set to hit shelves on October 27.
