Google has officially unveiled the Pixel Tag, a new gadget designed to help users keep track of their valuable belongings. Similar to Apple's AirTag and Samsung's Galaxy Tag, the Pixel Tag utilizes advanced technology for precise tracking. This innovation brings additional features and functionalities, making it an attractive option for those looking to ensure the safety of their possessions.
The Pixel Tag relies on Google's Find Hub network for effective location tracking. Crafted from durable stainless steel, it is designed to withstand bending and breaking, earning an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance. The device supports Bluetooth, including Bluetooth Channel Sounding, along with ultra-wideband (UWB) technology for enhanced accuracy.
Equipped with a built-in speaker, the Pixel Tag can emit sounds to help you locate it. Additionally, it features a button that allows users to ring their phones, providing a reliable way to find misplaced devices. With a battery life of up to one year, users can conveniently replace the battery themselves when needed.
Setting up the Pixel Tag is simple: just remove the battery tab and bring it close to an Android device running Android 9 or newer. It pairs quickly thanks to Google's Fast Pair technology. Users can also share their Pixel Tags with up to 10 individuals, making it easier to keep track of shared belongings. The device also includes a feature that alerts users if they leave an item behind.
For added safety, users will receive notifications if an unknown Pixel Tag is detected nearby. The device provides instructions on how to locate the tag and offers guidance on the appropriate next steps.
The Pixel Tag is priced at $29, with a four-pack available for $99. It will be sold through the Google Store starting November 11.
