Honor has officially launched its highly anticipated Robot Phone in China, showcasing cutting-edge technology and innovative design. Backed by numerous teasers and prototypes revealed over the past year, this flagship Android smartphone is set to redefine mobile photography and user interaction. The Honor Robot Phone is distinguished by its impressive gimbal camera system integrated into its design. Honor has successfully engineered this feature through an astonishing 60 manufacturing processes and over 100 precision components, resulting in a groundbreaking offering.
This smartphone is built upon more than 100 patents and showcases the smallest titanium gimbal system available in the industry. Honor proudly claims that it is 65% smaller than conventional gimbals found in devices like DJI’s Osmo Pocket. The Robot Phone features what Honor refers to as the industry’s smallest 4D gimbal system.
The gimbal motor is ultralight at just 2.6g and only 6mm thick, fitting smoothly within the phone’s 9.6mm profile, though the device itself weighs 248 grams, offering a sturdy feel in the hand.
Exciting Features of the Robot Phone's Gimbal
The 1/1.28” camera sensor boasts a remarkable 200MP resolution with an f/1.6 aperture, capable of 4K video recording. The gimbal is controlled by Honor’s H1 imaging chip, allowing users to employ voice commands to manipulate gimbal settings, such as rotating or focusing on specific subjects. It also features AI-driven subject tracking, enhancing vlogging, livestreaming, and video calls.
More Than Just a Camera
Beyond its photography capabilities, the gimbal acts as a robotic companion, powered by Honor's Yoyo AI assistant. This unique feature enables the device to observe and interact with its environment autonomously, complete with more than 100 facial expressions and even the ability to dance to music.
Partnership with Arri for Cinematic Quality
The Honor Robot Phone is also the inaugural product from a collaboration with the renowned German cinema equipment brand Arri. This partnership has led to the integration of native Log-C3 video encoding and LUT color grading, providing a dedicated cinema mode that emulates the aesthetics of Arri's high-end cinema cameras.
In addition to its primary gimbal camera, the Robot Phone is equipped with a 200 MP periscope telephoto lens offering 2.7x optical zoom and a 50MP ultrawide camera that doubles as a macro lens.
Display-wise, the phone sports a 6.3-inch LTPO OLED screen with a resolution of 2,640 x 1,216 pixels and a variable refresh rate ranging between 1-120Hz. With a peak local brightness of 6,800 nits, Honor has utilized an AR anti-reflective coating to minimize glare.
Powering the Robot Phone is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, accompanied by up to 16GB of RAM and a generous 1TB of storage. It runs on MagicOS 10 based on Android 16 and is equipped with a robust 7,060mAh Si-C battery supporting 120W wired and 50W wireless charging.
The Honor Robot Phone will be available in classic Silver and Gray colors, with the 12/512GB variant priced at CNY 9,999 ($1,482) and the 16GB RAM with 1TB storage model priced at CNY 12,999 ($1,927).
Sales are set to commence in China on August 18. However, it's uncertain whether this revolutionary device will reach international markets, with expectations leaning towards its availability remaining primarily within China.
