iPhone 18 Pro Estimated BOM Costs Soar by 40%, Hinting at Higher Retail Prices

As anticipation builds for the iPhone 18 Pro, new insights reveal that costs are projected to significantly increase, primarily due to ongoing supply chain challenges. A recent TrendForce report highlights a troubling forecast for the smartphone's bill of materials (BOM), suggesting that the price of the 256GB variant might rise considerably.

The BOM for the iPhone 18 Pro is estimated to increase by up to 38% compared to the previous model. Current predictions indicate that the base model with 256GB storage could retail for as much as $1,399. As outlined in the TrendForce report, the rise in retail prices for the iPhone 18 Pro seems unavoidable given the situation.

Notably, the memory components—both RAM and storage—are projected to account for nearly 34% of the total BOM for the iPhone 18 Pro. This figure is expected to escalate to about 42% by the first half of 2027. In stark contrast, just a year prior, these components comprised only 10% of the BOM costs for the iPhone 17 Pro.

However, there is a glimmer of hope, as TrendForce suggests that Apple may mitigate some of the cost impact by lowering its profit margins.
