Apple's iOS 27 developer beta 2 has introduced two major improvements for RCS (Rich Communication Services) messaging between iPhone and Android devices. iPhone users can now easily reply to specific messages within a thread, similar to how iMessage operates, and emoji reactions will now display correctly on the Android side instead of appearing as bland text lines. This enhancement means that iPhone users can enjoy seamless conversations with their friends on Android devices, specifically with the upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra and other high-end Android phones.

Enhanced Messaging Features for iPhone Users

iOS 27 developer beta 2, released in late June, introduces the ability to reply to individual messages within a conversation thread. This feature is activated by long-pressing the message and selecting the Reply option, mimicking the intuitiveness offered by iMessage.

A Global Rollout Beyond Europe

While this functionality primarily benefits Android phone users, the reply and reaction features will only activate when your iPhone contact upgrades to iOS 27. Notably, this improvement isn't restricted to certain regions, as was the case with Siri AI in the EU, despite regulatory pressures pushing for RCS's implementation on the iPhone.

Availability and Timing of Updates

However, users should note that these enhancements are currently available only in the beta version and are expected to be fully operational with the stable release in September. The enhancements depend also on the carrier supporting RCS.
