Instagram Introduces Instants: A New Way to Share Photos with Friends

Source: Date:

Instagram is embracing spontaneity with the launch of its latest feature, Instants. Designed for quick, ephemeral photo sharing among friends, Instants allows users to capture unfiltered moments and share them privately. This new feature is not just about sharing for the moment; it also stores your photos in an archive for a year, giving users the option to revisit and reshare their favorite Instants via Stories.

The Instants system comprises both a feature within the Instagram app and a companion app, providing a streamlined camera access method. This convenient option is currently available on iOS and Android in select countries, encouraging users to connect more intimately with their close friends.

Instants allows users to send photos that disappear after being viewed, creating a pressure-free sharing environment. Users can engage with sent Instants through reactions or replies that will appear directly in their direct messages. This feature can be found in the bottom right corner of the Instagram DM Inbox, where it is displayed as a small stack of photos.

When sharing an Instant, users can include a caption, which is prominently featured before the image, but editing options are limited to prioritize authenticity over perfection. You have full control over who sees your Instants, and for those moments you may want to retract, there's an "Undo" button for peace of mind. Additionally, users can access their personal archive of shared Instants, ensuring that this private gallery is only visible to them.
