Google has launched the Android 17 Beta 4 build for developers, revealing indications of a new feature for future Pixel devices that suggests LED lighting on the rear panel.
This feature, dubbed Pixel Glow, appears to operate as an LED-based notification system, reminiscent of the front-facing notification lights found on older smartphones.

A screenshot provided in the report reveals that Pixel Glow will utilize colored lights on the rear panel to alert users of incoming notifications while the phone is face down.
Notably, this feature will reportedly remain inactive when Flash notifications are enabled. Additionally, the code uncovered in the beta indicates that Pixel Glow will necessitate specialized hardware lighting on the device.
The code also hints at various applications for Pixel Glow, including subtle lighting effects for incoming calls from favored contacts, visual feedback during hands-free operation, and ambient lighting during interactions with Gemini.
Interestingly, leaked renders of the forthcoming Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, and Pixel 11 Pro XL do not reveal any indicative rear lighting hardware, raising questions about how Google will implement this feature.
