In an exciting new development, Spotify has broadened its horizons beyond music and podcasts by introducing the ability to purchase physical printed books directly through its platform. This innovative feature, which aligns with Spotify's vision of merging audio and reading experiences, allows users to enjoy their favorite stories in multiple formats.
Initially revealed in February, the feature named Page Match ensures that your reading progress is synced across audiobooks, e-books, and printed books. Spotify has collaborated with Bookshop.org to facilitate the purchase of these physical books.
As of today, this functionality is available in the US and the UK, although it is currently limited to Spotify's Android app, with iOS support expected to arrive next week.
Moreover, the Page Match feature is set to roll out in over 30 additional languages, including French, German, and Swedish. Early results indicate its success: users of Page Match reportedly stream 55% more audiobook hours weekly compared to those who do not use it, and 62% of "Page Matched" audiobook titles are books users had not previously explored.
Currently, Spotify boasts an impressive selection of audiobooks, available in 22 countries with a catalog of 700,000 titles. Following its launch on iOS, Audiobook Recaps have now also been introduced for Android users. These brief audio summaries are designed to refresh listeners on the story's progression, making it easier to dive back into their audiobooks.
Additionally, Audiobook Charts are being launched in Germany, featuring rankings for the Top Audiobooks overall and by genre, reflecting listening habits and engagement. In the UK and US, dedicated charts for kids and family titles are also being implemented.
