iPhone Ultra Launch Limited to the U.S. Amid Production Challenges

Source: Date:

Apple is set to unveil its highly anticipated foldable device, the iPhone Ultra, at the September 8 event, but recent reports indicate that its launch will be restricted to a single market initially. As excitement builds for the announcement, it appears the iPhone Ultra will be available in the U.S. first, followed by select additional markets such as China. Unfortunately for Australian consumers, they will not see the device at launch.

Interestingly, the announcement will not include pricing details for the iPhone Ultra, which is expected to be priced significantly higher than the already premium iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models. In Australia, the cost of the iPhone Ultra could soar up to AUD 700 more than the local pricing for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8, which is currently available for AUD 2,999 (approximately $2,118). This positions the expected price for the iPhone Ultra at around AUD 3,699 (roughly $2,613).

Sources suggest that production setbacks are the main reason for this phased release strategy. Apple’s suppliers are reportedly facing more challenges than anticipated, particularly with the foldable display and hinge components, which are critical to the device's functionality. Initial estimates projected mass production to commence in June, but that timeline has since shifted to August and may face further delays. Reports indicate that Foxconn has been adjusting its production plans, and insiders suggest that ongoing engineering evaluations could push the timeline back an additional two months.

Despite the promising details surrounding the iPhone Ultra, caution is advised regarding the reliability of these reports. Some sources mistakenly refer to the iPhone Ultra as the "iPhone Fold," and there is confusion about the lineup expected at the launch event. Current information aligns with the understanding that the Ultra is indeed the foldable iteration, negating the possibility of multiple separate releases under different names.
