Xiaomi has unveiled the Redmi Note 17 series in China, boasting significantly larger batteries compared to the previous Note 15 series, along with new chipsets. The Pro model, featuring a 6.83” display, is the smaller variant in this lineup.

The standard Redmi Note 17 showcases a massive 7” display, utilizing a 120Hz OLED panel with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,396 pixels and a peak brightness of 1,800 nits. This touchscreen is designed to function efficiently even with wet or gloved hands.

Such a large display naturally pairs with a correspondingly large battery: the phone is equipped with an 8,000mAh battery capable of lasting up to 22 hours of video playback or 10 hours of outdoor navigation. It features an energy density of 821Wh/L and is rated for 1,600 charge cycles. The battery supports 45W charging and 22.5W reverse charging, allowing it to share power with other devices.

The Redmi Note 17 is also rated IP65 for basic water resistance, meaning it can withstand splashes but not submersion. The exterior is protected by Gorilla Glass 7i.

Powering the device is the Snapdragon 4 Gen 4, a 4nm (Samsung 4LPX) chip that includes two Cortex-A78 and six Cortex-A55 CPU cores, along with an Adreno 613 GPU. It offers configurations of 6GB or 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and storage options of 128GB or 256GB of UFS 2.2, with a SIM card slot available for a microSD card for expanded storage.

Other noteworthy features include an optical fingerprint reader, an IR blaster, dual-band Wi-Fi 5 (ac), Bluetooth 5.1 support, and NFC capabilities. The device employs a virtual proximity sensor.

In contrast, the Pro model features a 6.83” display but presents a superior OLED panel. It supports 12-bit colors (compared to the 8-bit color depth of the standard model) and boasts a sharper resolution of 1,280 x 2,772 pixels. This display can achieve a peak brightness of 3,500 nits, with DC dimming to 80 nits and PWM dimming as low as 1 nit.

Despite its smaller form factor, the Pro variant houses a larger 9,000mAh Silicon-Carbon battery, also rated for 1,600 charge cycles, and supports faster 67W charging, along with the same 22.5W reverse charging available in the standard model.

The Pro model runs on the Snapdragon 6s Gen 4, another 4nm (Samsung 4LPX) chip featuring both Cortex-A78 and Cortex-A55 cores in a 4+4 arrangement, equipped with a newer Adreno 710 GPU. It offers 8GB and 12GB RAM options, as well as storage configurations of 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB (UFS 2.2 for the 128GB variant, UFS 3.1 for the others). Note that this model lacks a microSD card slot.

Similar to the standard model, the Pro variant offers features such as an optical fingerprint reader, an IR blaster, dual-band Wi-Fi 5 (ac), Bluetooth 5.1 (AAC, LDAC), and NFC. However, it is distinguished by an ultrasonic proximity sensor and stereo speakers, while the standard model features a single speaker.

The Redmi Note 17 Pro has been drop tested from 3m and is rated IP69

In terms of water resistance, the Redmi Note 17 Pro is more advanced, rated IP68 for submersion and IP66/IP69/IP69K for protection against water jets. Its exterior features premium Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and has been drop tested from heights of 3 meters.

The camera specifications are quite modest for both models. The Pro variant features a primary 50MP camera with a small 1/2.76” sensor and an f/1.8 lens, alongside a secondary 2MP depth sensor. The front-facing camera is 8MP, with both rear and front cameras capable of recording 1080p video at 30fps.

The standard model similarly features a 50MP rear camera (lacking the depth sensor) and an 8MP front camera. It is important to note that these specifications pertain to the Chinese versions of the devices; previous iterations, such as the Redmi Note 15 series, offered significantly different camera setups in global markets.
