Omdia has published its global smartphone market share report for the second quarter of this year (April-June), along with insights into the Mainland China market.

Overall smartphone shipments in China declined by 2% compared to Q2 2025. However, both Huawei and Apple managed to increase their shipments and market shares.

Huawei and Apple grew while the rest of the Chinese smartphone market declined in Q2

Specifically, Huawei shipped a record 15.2 million devices, capturing a 23% market share, up from 12.2 million units and an 18% market share in the same quarter last year. Meanwhile, Apple shipped 12.4 million iPhones, accounting for a 19% market share, an increase from 10.1 million units and 15% market share in Q2 2025.

Following Huawei and Apple, Oppo ranked third with 10.6 million devices shipped and a 16% market share, a decline of 9%. Vivo closely followed with 10.5 million shipments and the same 16% market share, experiencing an 11% drop. Xiaomi completed the top five with 8.2 million devices shipped, representing a 12% market share, down a significant 21% compared to the previous year.

Interestingly, the decline in the Chinese smartphone market was less pronounced than the global market, which fell by 4% during the same period. In total, 66.1 million smartphones were shipped in China in Q2. Factors such as the memory crisis and rising component costs are further polarizing the market.

Omdia Principal Analyst Hayden Hou attributes Huawei's growth to its "relatively stable pricing structure" and strong demand in the premium segment. New models like the Pura X Max and Enjoy 90 Pro Max have received positive reviews. Additionally, Huawei benefits from robust in-house R&D and strong ties with domestic supply chains, allowing it to withstand cost fluctuations. Apple's decision not to increase prices has also positively impacted its performance.

Omdia forecasts that the Chinese smartphone market will contract by 6% for the full year compared to 2025, representing a slower decline than the global market. Other manufacturers, excluding Huawei and Apple, are refining their portfolios to adapt to the shifting landscape. Consumer demand is expected to remain stable, though users are likely to be more cautious about upgrading their devices.
