Earlier this year, Huawei unveiled the Pura 90 Pro and 90 Pro Max for the Chinese market. Now, the company is introducing two "90s" models that feature similar hardware but are set to launch globally.
The Pura 90s Pro models share many spec similarities, with the main differences being screen size—6.6 inches for the Pura 90s Pro and 6.9 inches for the Pro Max—as well as variations in charging speed and telephoto camera capabilities.
Huawei Pura 90s Pro Max
This model stands out with the industry's first 200MP RYYB sensor. Huawei has a long-standing preference for yellow sub-pixels over green, and this large 1/1.28-inch sensor is paired with an f/2.6 lens and 4x optical zoom. Unlike the complex switchable lenses seen in last year’s Pura 80 Ultra, this model features a fixed zoom while incorporating 20x telephoto video through real-time RAW processing. The lens supports CIPA 7.0 stabilization (7 stops) and is capable of macro photography as well.
The main camera also utilizes a 1/1.28-inch sensor, this time configured with a 50MP resolution. This new LOFIC sensor promises a wider dynamic range and retains the RYYB configuration. It replaces the 1-inch sensor found in the Pura 80 Pro and Ultra models from the previous year, offering an OIS-enabled lens with an adjustable aperture ranging from f/1.4 to f/4.0 in ten increments. Additionally, a 40MP ultra-wide camera with an RYYB sensor and an f/2.2 lens complements the main setup.
On the telephoto front, the Pro Max comes equipped with a 4x telephoto camera featuring a 50MP sensor, an OIS-enabled f/2.1 lens, and a macro mode allowing for close-up shots (minimum 5cm).
Huawei Pura 90s Pro
The main camera maintains similarities to the Pro Max, utilizing a 50MP 1/1.28-inch RYYB sensor but lacks the LOFIC technology. The ultra-wide camera is a more basic 12.5MP unit with an RYYB sensor and f/2.2 lens.
The Pro model sports a 6.6-inch flat LTPO display (1-120Hz refresh rate) with a resolution of 1,256 x 2,760 pixels, protected by second-generation Kunlun Glass.
The Pro Max showcases a larger, 6.9-inch flat LTPO display (1-120Hz), offering a resolution of 1,308 x 2,880 pixels and original Kunlun Glass. Both displays feature an optical design that reduces reflections by up to 70%. Enhanced scratch resistance is claimed to be 16 times greater, while drop resistance is increased by 25 times due to a diamond-like carbon coating and silicon nitride ceramic material.

Both devices are powered by the Kirin 9030S chip—a new addition from HiSilicon, differing from the Kirin 9020 used in the Pura 80 generation, making its performance still to be fully assessed.
Notably, this generation includes support for 5G, a feature lacking in previous globally sold Huawei phones. Both models also offer eSIM support, alongside dual-band Wi-Fi 7 (be), Bluetooth 6.0 (LDAC and L2HC), and NearLink E2.0, a Huawei-developed alternative to Bluetooth.
Each model comes with 12GB of RAM and storage options of 256GB or 512GB, running on EMUI 16 based on AOSP 16.
Both devices house 6,000mAh batteries for the Chinese and global markets, though units sold in the EU will have reduced capacity (5,500mAh) due to regulations. The Pro Max model supports faster charging, with 100W wired and 80W wireless, compared to the Pro model, which offers 66W wired and 50W wireless charging.
In a nod to aesthetics, Huawei has painted the metal frames to match the vibrant gradient colors of the rear panels, adding an extra visual appeal to options like Orange Ocean.
Available Colors:
Huawei Pura 90s Pro Max: Orange Ocean, Blush Gold, Blaze Purple, Graphite Black
Huawei Pura 90s Pro: Guava Soda, Coconut White, Orange Soda, Mulberry Black
Both models are rated IP68 for submersion (up to 2 meters) and IP69 for water jet resistance. The Pro Max is slightly heavier at 230g and slimmer at 8.1mm, while the Pro weighs 213g with a thickness of 8.2mm.
The Huawei Pura 90s Pro and Pro Max will see a gradual global rollout. They have already appeared in Malaysia, with availability expected soon in Singapore. While the models are not yet listed on Huawei's European sites, pricing information is available in the table below. A dedicated launch event for the Middle East is scheduled for July 16.
