Following its success in the foldable smartphone market, Samsung appears to be venturing into the realm of rollable display smartphones, as indicated by a recently uncovered patent filing.
The patent, identified by WearView, outlines a device featuring a rollable screen and a movable rear camera module that shifts in conjunction with the expanding display.

According to sketches included in the patent and renders provided by WearView, the device incorporates a cutout on the rear panel to accommodate the camera module.

When the display is tucked into the main chassis, the device resembles a traditional smartphone, akin to the Galaxy S26 Ultra. However, once the screen is fully extended, it achieves a form factor similar to the Galaxy Z Fold7.
The patent also reveals that the device may include sensors that monitor changes in display size, camera and antenna position adjustments, and other hardware modifications necessitated by the moving screen.

In 2023, Samsung showcased a prototype featuring a rollable OLED display and previously filed a patent in 2021 for a device with both rolling and folding capabilities.
As with many patents, there is no assurance that this concept will reach the commercial market. Nevertheless, the filing indicates Samsung's ongoing interest in developing a rollable smartphone, potentially in line with concepts like the Moto Rizr and Tecno's Phantom Ultimate.
