Technology giant Xiaomi has unveiled new official images of its much-anticipated performance vehicle, the Xiaomi YU7 GT. Released on May 15, these latest images showcase an exciting new exterior color option named Crimson Red. The company plans to officially launch this SUV by the end of May 2026, aiming to blend family usability with track-ready performance in today's competitive automotive market.
In terms of raw performance, the YU7 GT packs a powerful punch, delivering an impressive 990 horsepower from its electric powertrain. According to Xiaomi, this setup enables the large family SUV to achieve a remarkable top speed of 300 km/h. Additionally, for those concerned about driving range, the model boasts a travel capacity of up to 705 km on a full charge, based on the official China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC).

These newly released images highlight not only the exterior but also a coordinated interior theme called Track Red. The cabin features a striking dual-tone design that combines deep black materials with vibrant red accents. To enhance its exclusivity, designers have incorporated GT embroidery on the front seats and a distinctive GT badge on the dashboard. While the colorful theme adds a dramatic touch, the overall cabin layout remains practical, similar to the standard Xiaomi YU7 model.
Potential customers will have the opportunity to view the new vehicle very soon, as Xiaomi has announced that display units in the Crimson Red color will begin appearing at local dealerships on May 16. The company aims to quickly get these units into all 268 retail locations across 82 cities in China, leveraging a strategy reminiscent of its smartphone launches by swiftly flooding stores with new products.
To emphasize the vehicle's performance capabilities, Xiaomi dedicated considerable time to testing prototypes at the renowned Nürburgring Nordschleife racetrack in Germany. Engineers conducted extensive chassis tuning on this legendary track to ensure optimal handling and performance. This marketing approach aligns with Xiaomi's established practice of showcasing its vehicles' prowess on race tracks.
This is not the first time Xiaomi has employed such strategies; the company previously drew attention to its SU7 Ultra sedan, which recorded a remarkable lap time of 6 minutes and 22.091 seconds at the Nürburgring in 2025, positioning it as one of the fastest production electric cars globally. With the YU7 GT, the brand is hopeful that it can replicate this racing success with its larger utility SUVs.

Historically, the GT designation has signified high-speed vehicles capable of long-distance travel in luxury. Xiaomi asserts that its new SUV fits this definition perfectly. However, the launch of this premium performance model comes at a challenging time for the brand. The standard Xiaomi YU7 lineup debuted in June 2025 and experienced a strong start, selling 39,089 units in December 2025 and 37,869 units in January 2026.
Unfortunately, the initial excitement appears to be waning. Recent data from China DataTracker indicates that sales for the standard YU7 plummeted to just 9,876 units in April 2026, representing a concerning 27.2 percent drop compared to March. Previously, monthly sales had comfortably exceeded 20,000 units during both February and March of 2026. Falling below the 10,000-unit mark serves as a clear warning that consumers are exploring alternatives in the crowded electric vehicle market.
Xiaomi relies on the introduction of the new GT model to rekindle interest and draw customers back into showrooms. While the company has yet to announce the official pricing and specific battery specifications for the YU7 GT, expectations suggest a price range of 450,000 to 500,000 yuan. Further details will be revealed during the company's official launch event at the end of May. Until then, Xiaomi is hopeful that the allure of 990 horsepower and vibrant crimson paint will reinvigorate its automotive sales.
