Disappointing April Pixel Update Leaves Some Users with Bricked Devices

Source: Date:

For many Pixel users, the anticipation for the April Pixel Update has turned into disappointment, particularly for those who found themselves facing a bricked device following last month’s update. While Google released an update for various Pixel models, including the newer Pixel 8 and Pixel 10 series, many users are still struggling with the repercussions of the March update that rendered their phones unusable. This article delves into the details of the recent update and offers some troubleshooting options for affected users.

April Update Brings Monthly Improvements

The April Pixel Update has been rolled out to Pixel 6 and 7 models as part of Google’s new "Quarterly Update Track." Users can access their updates by navigating to Settings > System > Software updates > System update. However, many users are still waiting for a solution to the bootloop issue that has rendered their phones inoperable since last month.

No Fix for the Bootlooping Dilemma

Unfortunately, the latest update has not addressed the bootlooping issue that impacts numerous Pixel users. Google has yet to comment on the problem, which has been reported through the official Issue Tracker, leaving many users unable to use their devices effectively.

Patch Notes: What’s New

Today’s update does include some bug fixes:

  • Apps: Resolved an issue where the System settings lacked the Backup menu on several Pixel models.
  • Apps: Fixed crashes affecting certain banking and third-party applications.
  • Display & Graphics: Addressed crashes occurring in specific games for Pixel 10 series devices.
  • Display & Graphics: Restored the missing quick search bar from the home screen on multiple Pixel models.
  • WiFi: Fixed crashes related to Quick Share during file transfers on the Pixel 9 series.

What to Do If Your Pixel is Bricked

If your Pixel was bricked following the last update, your options are limited for now. Users may have to wait until the May Pixel Update for a dedicated fix. Meanwhile, you can try holding down the Power and Volume Up buttons for 30 seconds to see if your device successfully boots. If it does, attempt to bypass the crash by holding the volume down button.

Accessing Recovery Mode for a Factory Reset

If you can access Recovery Mode, performing a factory reset may help. Here’s how:

  1. From the Fastboot screen (showing the Android robot), use the Volume buttons to highlight “Recovery Mode” and press Power.
  2. Follow the prompts to open the Recovery Menu, where you can select "Wipe data/factory reset" using the Volume buttons and confirm with Power.

Note: Performing a factory reset will erase all data not previously backed up.

For those still affected, patience may be required as users await Google’s next update, which will hopefully resolve these significant issues.
