Aptoide has unveiled AppArena, a groundbreaking alternative game store specifically designed for the Japanese iOS market. This launch comes as a result of Apple's recent changes spurred by regulatory requirements, particularly following Japan's Mobile Software Competition Act of 2025, which encourages the entry of third-party app marketplaces.
In collaboration with BBSS Corporation, a digital services firm under the SoftBank umbrella, AppArena is now live. The platform boasts a unique approach, moving beyond traditional download-based rankings to help users discover games tailored to their preferences. This initiative aims to enhance the gaming experience for Japanese users.
AppArena offers an array of features including curated discovery articles from its editorial team, up to 10% cashback on in-app purchases, and 15-minute cloud game trials without consuming device storage. Additionally, it introduces the Game Genie AI feature, enabling users to request game recommendations simply by asking. This feature utilizes Aptoide's app metadata, user behavior insights, and advanced language models to provide personalized suggestions.
Aptoide's CEO, Paulo Trezentos, expressed enthusiasm about the launch, stating:
Japan is one of the most sophisticated mobile markets in the world. With AppArena, we're not just adding another icon to the Home Screen - we're bringing a new, AI-driven layer on top of the existing app ecosystem. You can spend minutes searching for the right app, or you can just ask Game Genie and have it done in seconds.
