Analyst Jeff Pu from GF Securities has released a new research note highlighting five anticipated upgrades for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max expected later this year.
Firstly, the Dynamic Island feature will be reduced in size, as the flood illuminator for Face ID will be integrated beneath the display. Additionally, the main camera will receive a significant upgrade to a 48MP sensor with variable aperture.
iPhone 18 Pro rumored colorsPu also notes that three new chips will power the Pro series. The A20 Pro chip will be manufactured using TSMC's pioneering 2nm process and a new packaging design. The N2 chip will serve as an upgrade to the N1 chip currently handling Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread support in the iPhone 17 and iPhone Air. While specific improvements from the N2 chip are yet to be detailed, it is expected to enhance wireless performance and improve power efficiency.
Lastly, the C2 modem is expected to be featured in the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. This introduction is noteworthy as the existing C1 modem has only been implemented in the iPhone 16e, whereas the C1X is used in the iPhone Air. With the C2, Apple’s proprietary modems will finally be integrated into the mainstream Pro lineup.
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are slated for unveiling in September, alongside the anticipated iPhone Fold. Meanwhile, the standard iPhone 18 may launch next spring with the iPhone 18e.
