Discovering the Upgraded Nothing Headphone (1) Pro

Source: Date:

Nothing continues to expand its innovative audio lineup with the introduction of the Headphone (1) Pro. Following the successful launch of the Headphone (1) and the more recent Headphone (a), this latest model aims to elevate the listening experience with a host of enhancements and premium materials.

The Headphone (1) Pro is available in both Black and White, with a price tag of €370. For comparison, the previous model, the Headphone (1), is typically priced at €300 but is currently offered at €250. Now, let’s dive into what’s inside the box of the Pro edition. The package includes a 3.5mm audio cable, a USB-C charging cable, and the headphones housed in a case that protects the ear cups while leaving the headband exposed, allowing for easy carrying.

This case bears resemblance to the AirPods Max 2 Smart Case with its glossy plastic finish. Although it gives off a premium vibe, it may be prone to fingerprints and scratches.

Similarities to Apple's AirPods Max 2 Case

There's no advanced storage within the case, but it does feature lanyard attachment points on each side.

Lanyard attachment capability

So, what upgrades does the Pro version present? The Headphone (1)'s previous molded aluminum and plastic design has been replaced with premium materials like CNC-machined aluminum and tempered glass. The headband now utilizes a titanium alloy instead of stainless steel, with a 10% wider band and 12% thicker padding. Additionally, the ear cushions are 50% softer for enhanced comfort.

On the audio front, the single 40mm driver of the previous model has been upgraded to a sophisticated 3-driver system: a new dual-magnet 40mm driver paired with a dedicated precision dynamic driver and an xMEMS solid-state driver tailored for midrange and treble sounds. The Spatial Audio feature has also received an update, now supporting head tracking.

Lightweight Titanium and Glass Materials

Improvements in Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) technology are significant as well, featuring a new 10-microphone system that provides an impressive 46dB noise reduction.

Unique Monitoring Mode

Among its distinctive features is a unique switch located inside the left earcup labeled "Flat." This isn't just a standard EQ preset; it activates a neutral monitoring mode developed in collaboration with Metropolis Studios, eliminating unnecessary sound enhancements and colorations. Flicking the switch turns off any EQ settings, Spatial Audio, and Transparency mode, though it remains compatible with ANC.

Intuitive Controls

Nothing has maintained physical controls on the right earcup, which we greatly appreciate! The volume slider doubles as a play/pause button, and the innovative "paddle" can change tracks as well as function as a scrubber. These controls are located on the rear of the earcup and might require a small adjustment period to master.

Regarding comfort, the Nothing Headphone (1) Pro delivers a truly premium wearing experience. The softer ear cushions provide immediate comfort, allowing for extended use without any pain, even after long periods. The passive isolation is outstanding, thanks to the generous earcup size and snug fit. It’s easy to envision using the Headphone (1) Pro while on a run without issue!
