The affordable electric vehicle market is becoming increasingly competitive, and Chinese manufacturer XPeng aims to capture a larger share with the launch of the Mona L03, a new family crossover SUV. This model is the second addition to XPeng's budget-oriented Mona series. Automakers around the globe are keenly observing the rise of budget electric vehicles as they target price-sensitive consumers. XPeng is set to host the official public debut of the Mona L03 in July, followed by a commercial launch shortly thereafter.
Understanding the significance of this new crossover requires a look at the remarkable success of its predecessor. XPeng launched the first model in this series, the Mona M03 liftback, in August 2024. Consumers reacted enthusiastically, with over 10,000 firm orders placed within just 52 minutes of its release. According to data from China DataTracker, XPeng successfully delivered 272,077 units of the liftback to customers between August 2024 and May 2026.

Pricing played a pivotal role in this sales phenomenon, with the Mona M03 offered in China for between RMB 119,800 and RMB 151,800, translating to approximately $17,680 to $22,410. While XPeng has yet to announce the final pricing of the new crossover, it is expected to adopt a similarly aggressive pricing strategy to maintain sales momentum. The company previously confirmed that the liftback is designed for global markets, and the upcoming Mona L03 will also be offered internationally, furthering XPeng's expansion abroad.
Initial details about the new crossover emerged from Chinese regulatory filings. In April 2026, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) revealed information during the mandatory domestic homologation process, indicating that the Mona L03 falls into the compact SUV category. It measures 183.1 inches in length, 75.6 inches in width, and 63 inches in height, with a generous wheelbase of 112.2 inches, providing ample legroom for passengers. The vehicle's curb weight ranges between 4,090 lb and 4,134 lb, depending on the configuration.

The new model retains a familial resemblance to the Mona M03, showcasing the same distinctive T-shaped headlights and a sharply sloped hood aimed at enhancing aerodynamics. However, the design features notable updates, including practical semi-hidden door handles and a sleek, uninterrupted taillight strip on the rear. Additionally, an active front air intake is integrated into the lower bumper for optimal cooling, complemented by striking brake calipers visible behind the wheels. Customers can opt for either 18" or 20" wheels based on their selected trim level.
One of the most compelling features lies beneath the attractive exterior, where XPeng has introduced two distinct powertrain options. Pursuing a dual strategy, buyers can choose between a standard Battery Electric Vehicle (B) and an Extended Range Electric Vehicle (ER), catering to drivers who desire an electric driving experience while also considering charging station availability.

The pure electric B version is equipped with a single electric motor producing 183 kW (245 horsepower). XPeng offers this motor with two different Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery configurations, allowing customers to choose between a 56 kWh or a larger 69 kWh option. Under the official China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC) testing conditions, these batteries provide a driving range of between 314 miles and 404 miles on a full charge.
The ER variant presents an interesting compromise, utilizing the same 183 kW (245 horsepower) electric motor while integrating a small 1.5-liter internal combustion engine. This gas engine produces 70 kW (94 horsepower) and functions solely as an onboard generator, charging the battery when it runs low. When operating on electric power alone, the ER version can travel up to 160 miles before the gasoline generator activates.

XPeng has strategically timed the launch of the Mona L03 to sustain public interest. After the regulatory leak in April 2026, the company has held off on officially confirming the upcoming premiere and releasing the first promotional images until now. The full reveal of the new Mona is anticipated in July, and if XPeng successfully replicates the pricing model of its predecessor, this crossover could become a familiar sight across global roads.
