The Ultimate Showdown: Discover Which Electric Vehicle Claims the Title of Fastest EV

Source: Date:

Electric vehicles (EVs) are not only efficient, quiet, and comfortable, but they also deliver impressive instant torque and substantial power. A team from China conducted a comprehensive test to determine which of the current mass-market EVs can accelerate to 100 km/h the fastest. The evaluation included a subsequent braking test to ensure thorough assessment.

Some of the featured vehicles might not be well-known globally, as the tests were performed in China. The ten participants in the drag race included the Zeekr 001 FR, XPeng P7 (known as P7i in China), Arcfox Alpha S, Tesla Model 3 Performance, Porsche Taycan Turbo, Audi RS e-tron GT, Tesla Model S Plaid, Zeekr 001, Lotus Eletre R+, and the newest Zeekr 007. Before testing, all vehicles were charged to 80%, and their tires were inflated according to manufacturer specifications.

The ambient temperature during testing was around 0°C, which did not affect the comparison since it remained consistent across all vehicles. Each car was equipped with precise measuring devices to ensure accurate results.

Here is an overview of the participants, including their power outputs and manufacturer-claimed 0-100 km/h times:

VehiclePowerClaimed 0-100 km/h Time
Zeekr 001 FR930 kW2.02 s
Tesla Model S Plaid760 kW2.1 s
Zeekr 007468 kW2.84 s
Lotus Eletre R+675 kW2.95 s
Porsche Taycan Turbo500 kW3.2 s
Audi RS e-tron GT475 kW3.3 s
Tesla Model 3 Performance377 kW3.3 s
ArcFox Alpha S487 kW3.5 s
Nio ET7480 kW3.8 s
XPeng P7348 kW3.9 s

In the actual tests, the Zeekr 001 FR outperformed the Tesla Model S Plaid by a more significant margin than the official numbers indicated, though neither vehicle achieved its advertised times.

The Zeekr 007 secured third place, two tenths of a second behind the Model S, with the Lotus Eletre R+ closely following.

The Audi RS e-tron GT was notable as one of the only two vehicles to achieve its claimed acceleration time, despite the cold conditions. It managed to outperform the Porsche Taycan Turbo, which had superior specifications on paper, and marked a nearly four-tenths gap over the Model 3 Performance, which promised identical acceleration.

The Nio ET7 was another car that met its promised 0-100 km/h time, landing in eighth place after surpassing the ArcFox Alpha S. Furthermore, the Nio established a six-tenths gap over the tenth-placed XPeng P7.

The XPeng P7, Lotus Eletre R+, and Zeekr 007 closely followed the e-tron GT, forming what can be classified as the competent segment. While their stopping distances were impressive given the weight of the vehicles and the temperature, they did not demonstrate track-ready performance.

In contrast, the Tesla Model 3 Performance, Porsche Taycan Turbo, and ArcFox Alpha S exhibited braking distances exceeding 39 meters, which is disappointing considering their performance claims.
