In May, Apple was rumored to be testing a 200MP camera for a future iPhone, but no further details were provided at that time. As 200MP cameras gain traction in the Android market, it appears Apple is keen to explore this technology and assess its viability.

Recently, a note from Morgan Stanley suggested that Apple has decided to incorporate a 200MP camera in the iPhone 21, expected to launch in 2028. Regarding the naming convention, Apple is anticipated to release the iPhone 20 in 2027 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the original iPhone. Consequently, the next generation will be referred to as the iPhone 21.

Here's when the first iPhone with a 200MP camera is coming

It is speculated that the iPhone 21 Pro Max—and possibly the Pro model—will feature the debut of the 200MP camera. Samsung will supply the camera, although it remains uncertain which specific sensor Apple will choose, as it is still quite early in the development process and the sensor may not even be announced yet. Notably, this sensor could potentially be manufactured in the United States by Samsung.
