Apple launched the iPhone 16e in February as its most affordable model, but the lower price came with several compromises, notably the absence of MagSafe. While the device supports wireless charging, it lacks the magnetic attachment system and uses a standard, Android-style wireless charging method.
For those puzzled by the omission of MagSafe, there is encouraging news. A recent report suggests that the iPhone 17e, expected to launch in early 2026, will bring back MagSafe support.
iPhone 16eAdditionally, the iPhone 17e is rumored to feature Apple’s second-generation C1X cellular modem, first introduced with the iPhone Air in September. In contrast, the current iPhone 16e uses the original C1 modem.
Previous leaks indicate the iPhone 17e will maintain the same screen size as its predecessor but will feature thinner bezels. It is also expected to upgrade the front-facing camera to an 18MP sensor, matching other devices in the iPhone 17 family. The device will likely be powered by the A19 chip found in the iPhone 17 and retain the single 48MP rear camera from the iPhone 16e.
