Second-generation BYD Seal 07 EV arrives with extended range and a cheaper price tag

It has only been a few months since BYD introduced the Seal 07 EV in March, yet the sedan has already been given a full generational overhaul. The second-generation Seal 07 has now gone on sale in China, and the pure-electric model undercuts its predecessor on price while offering better performance and more driving range.

Buyers can choose between three variants, carrying price tags of CNY 149,900 (roughly €19,000), CNY 159,900 (€20,300), and CNY 172,900 (€21,900). The entry point is now CNY 20,000 (€2,600) cheaper than the outgoing model, and customers trading in an old vehicle can shave off another CNY 4,000 (€512) on any trim.

Every version is powered by the same setup: a single motor mounted at the rear producing 245 kW (329 hp) and 365 Nm, paired with a 76.7 kWh second-generation Blade Battery capable of flash charging. The result is 775 km of CLTC-rated range — an improvement of 70 km — plus a 0 to 100 km/h sprint of 5.5 seconds, a full second faster than before, and a top speed of 240 km/h. Curiously, the 300 kW long-range variant that appeared in earlier regulatory documents is missing from the lineup, at least for the time being.

As those filings revealed, the sedan has also grown in size. It measures 5,080 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width, and 1,495 mm in height, riding on a 2,960 mm wheelbase. Compared to the outgoing car, that represents gains of 85 mm in length and 50 mm in width, along with a wheelbase stretched by 60 mm. Practicality comes courtesy of a 618 l boot and a 160 l front trunk, while a heat pump is fitted as standard.

The cost-cutting is most noticeable in the assisted-driving hardware. The entry-level model ships with basic cruise control only, whereas the two higher trims come standard with God's Eye C, which includes highway navigation assistance. Those after the roof-mounted LiDAR and urban navigation features of God's Eye B will need to pay a premium. All versions ride on double-wishbone front and five-link rear suspension, with the more affordable pair getting DiSus-C damping control and the range-topper upgrading to the magnetorheological DiSus-M setup.

The rapid model changeover arrives at a difficult moment for BYD's Seal family. Combined sales reached 46,834 units in October, a 19.32% decline year-on-year, while deliveries for the first ten months of 2026 stand at 351,557 — down 14.85%. Although these figures span multiple Seal-badged models rather than the Seal 07 alone, the downward trajectory is hard to miss. Time will tell whether the revamped Seal 07 can reverse the slide.
