Oppo appears to be in the final stretch of developing its debut pocket gimbal camera. The company first acknowledged back in September that it had a new imaging product category in the works for a 2026 debut, and well-known leaker Digital Chat Station later revealed the device carries the internal codename Fuyao. Positioned as a direct challenger to DJI's Osmo Pocket series, the gadget is now said to be nearing its official unveiling, with the tipster noting that confidence within Oppo about the product's prospects is running high.
Responding to comments, DCS mentioned that Oppo has recently been busy analyzing rival products, which he interprets as a sign that an announcement is drawing near. The pocket gimbal segment is quickly becoming a battleground — Insta360's Luna Pro and Luna Ultra have already joined the fray, and vivo is reportedly developing its own competitor to the Osmo Pocket as well.
Earlier leaks suggested that both Oppo and vivo have been testing a 200MP camera built around a 1/1.12-inch type sensor for their respective gimbal devices. Oppo's version may additionally feature Hasselblad co-branding along with tight smartphone integration, allowing footage to transfer directly to a connected phone for quick editing and sharing.
Beyond the gimbal, DCS outlined Oppo's broader 2027 smartphone roadmap, which reportedly leans into wider form factors — an area where AI features and fresh design concepts are expected to take center stage. When questioned about the company's wide foldable, he indicated that its design phase is nearly complete. On a less positive note, he also disclosed that the Find X10 Ultra has been shelved for now and might never see the light of day.
