The wide-screen smartphone trend appears to be gaining momentum, with multiple manufacturers exploring devices inspired by the Huawei Pura X View. Fresh rumors now indicate that Xiaomi may be the next major brand to join this emerging category.

Well-known tipster Digital Chat Station recently shared that an Android manufacturer is actively testing a wide-screen candybar smartphone. Although the company wasn't directly mentioned in the leak, an emoji included in the post strongly suggests the device in question is being developed by Xiaomi.

Additionally, the leak reveals that the device will come equipped with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor — a logical design choice considering the phone's unusual form factor.

As for the display, Xiaomi's wide-screen handset is expected to adopt either a 16:10 or 16:9 aspect ratio, putting it in line with what Huawei offers on the Pura X View.

Xiaomi isn't alone in pursuing this design. Oppo is also said to be working on a wide-screen phone that could launch under its Reno series. Rumored specifications for that device include a 6.35-inch display, a massive 8,000mAh battery, a dual 200MP rear camera setup, and MediaTek's Dimensity 9600M processor.

Budget-friendly brands like Doogee and Coolpad have already jumped on the wide-screen bandwagon with their own models. Huawei is also reportedly expanding its reach in this space, with a more affordable wide-screen phone allegedly in the works under its new Osta sub-brand.
