iQOO 16s Surfaces in Malaysia, and It's the 16R Wearing a New Name

Source: Date:

iQOO's next performance-driven smartphone has popped up in yet another certification database — but this time, it's going by a different name. A device bearing the model number I2606 has just cleared Malaysia's SIRIM certification, where it's listed as the iQOO 16s rather than the 16R we've seen before.

Interestingly, this is the exact same model number that appeared as the iQOO 16R in the GSM Association's IMEI database and in Indonesia's TKDN certification last month. The takeaway is that iQOO intends to market this handset as the 16s in Malaysia at the very least, while it remains unclear which branding will be used in other regions. Sadly, the SIRIM entry doesn't give away any specifications.

The 16R/16s is widely tipped to be a rebadged iQOO Z12 Turbo destined for markets outside China — mirroring what happened last generation, when the Z11 Turbo was sold globally as the iQOO 15R. Based on the leaks so far, buyers can look forward to a 6.59-inch display pushing a refresh rate of 165Hz or more, a choice between the Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 or Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Pro chipset, and possibly even a built-in active cooling fan.

On the battery front, one tipster has gone so far as to claim that iQOO is testing its upcoming performance phones with capacities of up to roughly 10,000 mAh. As for the launch window, the Z11 Turbo went official in China in January with the 15R following in February — meaning that if iQOO keeps the same rhythm, their successors should break cover in early 2027.
