When Denza, BYD's premium marque, introduced the N9 flagship SUV in March 2025, buyers were limited to a plug-in hybrid powertrain—even though early reports had hinted that a battery-electric variant was in the pipeline. Now, a freshly published regulatory filing in China has confirmed the EV's existence and spilled its headline specifications.
At the heart of the electric N9 sits a tri-motor all-wheel drive system pairing a 270 kW front motor with a duo of 310 kW rear motors. Combined, they deliver a staggering 890 kW (1,194 hp) of peak power—a gain of 210 kW over the plug-in hybrid flash charging version that arrived in May. According to the filing, this powerhouse of an SUV can reach a top speed of 240 km/h.
In terms of footprint, nothing has changed: the electric N9 stretches 5,270 mm in length, spans 2,030 mm across, stands 1,830 mm tall, and sits on a generous 3,125 mm wheelbase. The paperwork lists curb weights of 3,105 kg and 3,180 kg depending on configuration—making it a genuinely heavy machine. One notable difference from the plug-in hybrid, which is strictly a six-seater, is that the EV will be available with either five or six seats.
Visually, the electric version carries over the familiar N9 styling, complete with the LiDAR unit perched atop the roof. Standard equipment includes a panoramic glass roof and power-deployable side steps, while 22-inch wheels fill the arches and an optional two-tone paint scheme adds some flair. Power comes from LFP battery cells supplied by FinDreams, BYD's in-house battery arm, although the filing keeps the battery capacity, range figures, and charging performance under wraps for now.
