Sony has expanded its Android 17 rollout, bringing the new software update to the Xperia 10 VII and Xperia 10 VIII. The release follows earlier Android 17 updates for the Xperia 1 VIII and Xperia 1 VII, and it brings several personalisation and productivity improvements to Sony’s mid-range Xperia lineup.

While Sony has not confirmed the regions where the update is currently being seeded, the rollout is expected to reach the UK and Europe first, mirroring the pattern seen with the Xperia 1 VIII and Xperia 1 VII updates.

With Android 17, users of the Xperia 10 VII and Xperia 10 VIII get an updated “Wallpaper & style” feature. The refresh includes new wallpaper and clock designs, as well as added flexibility for customising the shape and style of icons.
The update also introduces a redesigned Quick Settings panel. Users can now resize and rearrange tiles more easily, with short descriptions available on larger tiles for quicker access.
Sony’s affiliate pricing section lists the Xperia 10 VIII in a 128GB, 8GB RAM configuration at $599.99 or €599.00.

The Xperia 10 VII also receives several useful upgrades with the Android 17 update. One of the more practical improvements is an enhanced screen recording tool, which now lets users capture either the full screen or a single app while simultaneously recording device audio and microphone audio.

Despite the meaningful quality-of-life upgrades, not all Android 17 features are making their way to the Xperia 10 VII and Xperia 10 VIII. Sony has left out AirDrop support in Quick Share, Desktop Mode, and the upgraded AI Camera Assistant in Photo mode.
