Huawei Mate 80 Air Rumored to Launch Next Month

Source: Date:

Huawei’s Mate 70 Air made an impact as the company’s entry into the ultra-thin smartphone segment, and now new rumors suggest its successor may finally be close to launch. A tipster on Weibo claims the Huawei Mate 80 Air could arrive next month, bringing much-awaited updates to Huawei’s thin-phone lineup.

The same source also indicates that the tablet side of the release may not happen at the same time. The MatePad Mini 2, successor to the compact MatePad Mini, is reportedly not launching alongside the Mate 80 Air, even though it could still appear in December. Earlier rumors had suggested the tablet might arrive this month, but the new report points to a slightly delayed timeline. The device is expected to run HarmonyOS 7 from day one.

As for the Mate 80 Air itself, previous leaks hint at a design that stays true to the Air formula. The phone is said to retain the predecessor’s circular camera island and start with 12GB of RAM. One earlier rumor also suggested that 3D face recognition will remain absent on the new Air, keeping the design focused on a slim profile rather than flagship-level biometric features.

The Mate 70 Air was especially notable for its 6.6mm thinness, and some reports suggest the Mate 80 Air could make that even thinner. The device is also expected to be powered by the Kirin 9030 chipset and feature a curved screen, though more concrete details are still pending as the launch window approaches.
