Following the earlier stable release for the Nothing Phone (3), Nothing has begun distributing Nothing OS 5.0, built on Android 17, to the Nothing Phone (4a), Nothing Phone (4a) Pro, Nothing Phone (3a), and Nothing Phone (3a) Pro. The rollout will happen in stages, so availability may vary by region and carrier. Users can check for the update by navigating to Settings > System > System update, while it is recommended to back up important data before installation. During the install process, increased battery consumption and a warmer device may be normal, according to Nothing.
Across all four models, the update introduces a dedicated Glyph app, separates Quick Settings from the notification panel, allows bulk arrangement of home screen icons, and adds a three-color status bar indicator for sensitive access, location, and AI processing. It also brings a new Translucent launcher theme with frosted-glass styling and wallpaper-inspired accent colors, two additional lock screen clock faces, customizable clock face colors, the new Geist typeface, and a refreshed Settings interface.
Other additions include new Collector and Away Time widgets, a Glyph Timer widget, Expanded Dark theme for forcing dark mode in apps that lack native support, adjustable Enhanced HDR brightness, Noto 3D Emoji in Gboard, refined Live Updates in the status bar, and single-tap Bluetooth connection and disconnection from Quick Settings.
Camera features vary by model. The Nothing Phone (3a) and Nothing Phone (3a) Pro receive a new Tuning feature with seven adjustable effects, upgraded Presets with a 2x2 widget, video support for Filters and Tuning, and Dual-view Video. The Nothing Phone (4a) and Nothing Phone (4a) Pro gain Dual-view Video for simultaneous front and rear camera recording, along with faster Essential Voice transcription. All four devices also get a refreshed Camera UI, plus improvements to recording, zoom, close-up shooting, and QR scanning.
According to the schedule, the Nothing Phone (2a) and Nothing Phone (2a) Plus are next for the stable release in mid-November, followed by the Nothing Phone (3a) Lite in late December and the Nothing Phone (4b) and CMF Phone 2 Pro in mid-January.
