Ford’s upcoming Fathom electric pickup is taking shape as an affordable EV, and new comments from the automaker reveal just how far prices will climb above the base model.

Andrew Frick, president of Ford Blue and Model e, said during the company’s third quarter earnings call that the Fathom’s $28,350 starting price is “just that.” He added: “We'll have a range that goes to the high $30,000 range. And we'll have a couple of different offerings within that.” That points to roughly two or three trims, with even the most expensive version expected to stay under $40,000.

Ford CEO Jim Farley also signaled that the company sees long-term revenue coming from subscriptions. According to Farley, customers who choose nicer trims care strongly about the digital experience, and he called the digital suite, including built-in Apple Maps, “really a game changer for any EV, let alone at this price.” Farley added that this will be “the most exciting upsell opportunity,” centered on “the long-term subscription and digital experience for the customer.”
So while a well-equipped Fathom should remain relatively affordable upfront, some features may arrive with monthly fees. Pre-orders are expected to open in early 2027, with first deliveries planned for late 2027. The Fathom will be a midsize electric pickup and the first model built on Ford’s new Universal EV Platform.
