Amazon Expands Alexa Hardware Lineup with Echo Show 16, Echo Time, Alexa Photo Frame, and More

Amazon has expanded its Alexa ecosystem with five new products: the redesigned Echo Show 16, an updated Echo Dot, the Echo Studio with Home Camera, the Echo Time smart alarm clock, and the Alexa Photo Frame. All five devices run the latest Alexa+ software, which Amazon says can carry on more natural conversations, ask follow-up questions, and complete complex multi-step tasks. Prime members get Alexa+ for free.

The Echo Show 16, replacing the Echo Show 15, features a 16-inch Full HD panel with roughly 10 percent more screen space and an anodized aluminum body that is nearly 40 percent slimmer. Buyers can opt for a Nanomatte finish that uses the same anti-glare technology as the Alexa Tablet 12 Pro to reduce reflections by more than 90 percent. Audio comes from eight micro woofers and two tweeters, and the 13-megapixel wide-angle camera supports auto-framing plus night vision for the first time in an Echo Show.

Amazon says the device has 20 percent more processing power and includes the full Fire TV experience with a remote in the box. Three new Screen Styles let users switch among a family organizer, a smart home dashboard featuring the new Alexa Home Map, and a digital photo frame. The Echo Show 16 is available for preorder at $499.99, or $569.99 with the Nanomatte display, with shipping expected later this year. Preorders take $100 off those prices.

The next-generation Echo Dot is the first to use Amazon's AZ3 chip with an AI Accelerator. It adds a fourth microphone and a built-in smart home hub supporting Zigbee, Matter, and Thread. An integrated eero Wi-Fi extender can add up to 1,000 square feet of coverage, and Amazon claims the speaker delivers 50 percent more bass than the previous model. It is on sale now for $99.99 in Graphite, Glacier White, Agave Green, and Coral Pink. The Amazon Kids Echo Dot costs $109.99 in Octopus and Penguin designs and includes a year of Kids+.

The Echo Studio with Home Camera retains the audio hardware from last year's Echo Studio—a 3.75-inch high-excursion woofer, three full-range drivers, and Dolby Atmos—while adding a 13-megapixel camera on top. This gives Alexa+ what Amazon calls visual intelligence: you can show a board game box to ask for rules, hold up a cereal box to reorder it, or remotely check the room through Live View in the Alexa app. Amazon says the camera will soon work with compatible Fire TVs for video calls on a larger screen. It is priced at $249.99, while the camera-free Echo Studio remains available for $219.99.

The Echo Time is a nightstand smart clock with a 3.2-inch circular touchscreen, hundreds of clock faces, and no camera. An optional smart alarm uses Amazon's Omnisense technology, including ultrasound that detects breathing, to wake you during a lighter sleep phase within a 10- to 60-minute window around your set alarm—no wearable required. The display also brightens gradually to simulate a sunrise. It is available now for $199.99 in Graphite, Glacier White, and Coral Pink. The Amazon Kids Echo Time starts at $209.99 in Galactic Grape and Cosmic Lime.

Finally, the Alexa Photo Frame is billed as the first photo frame with Alexa built in. Its 10.1-inch semi-matte anti-glare touchscreen syncs with Amazon Photos, and Alexa+ automatically selects worthwhile shots while filtering out screenshots and receipts. Users can ask for photos of specific people or trips and add voice notes to pictures. It costs $199.99 in Black, or $229 with Birch or Walnut wood frames, and comes with 90 days of Alexa+.
