In an exciting development, Google is reportedly working on introducing HDR (High Dynamic Range) emojis to its Chat app, which succeeded Google Hangouts. The potential new feature, hinted at through an APK teardown of the latest Gmail version, promises to enhance the visual quality of emojis used in conversations within the Google Workspace suite.
The teardown revealed a specific code string indicating the capability to “display-supported emoji in high dynamic range (HDR) with enhanced brightness and contrast.” This suggests that users can expect more visually striking emojis characterized by improved brightness and contrast levels, making them easier to read and more engaging.
The HDR emoji feature is likely to introduce brighter characters, which could be particularly beneficial for custom emoji symbols. However, the code also indicates applicability to “supported emoji,” meaning it could extend to the entire emoji library on supported devices. Although Google has yet to unveil any official timeline or confirmation regarding the rollout of HDR emojis in Google Chat, the indications suggest that this feature is on the horizon.
