Samsung SmartTag3: A Compact and Long-Lasting Tracker Now Supporting iOS

Source: Date:

Samsung has unveiled the SmartTag3, a significant upgrade to its tracking device, the SmartTag2, which has been around for three years. This latest iteration is designed to cater to a broader audience, as it is the first Samsung smart tag to support both Android and iOS devices. With enhanced features, a smaller form factor, and improved battery life, the SmartTag3 aims to make item tracking easier and more efficient for users across different platforms.

The Samsung SmartTag3 is now compatible with iPhone users, making it convenient for families and friends with mixed-device households. This versatility allows you to easily track shared items such as luggage, ensuring you never lose track of your belongings.

Samsung has reduced the size and weight of the tag by removing the built-in key ring that was present in earlier models. As a result, the new tag is 35% smaller and 33% lighter than the SmartTag2. Users will need to invest in new silicone and loop cases for attachment, but the compact design makes it easier to embed the tag into various items, including suitcases with specially designated compartments.

Equipped with Compass View and Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding technology, the SmartTag3 can provide distance and direction readings from up to 60 meters (200 feet) away—three times the previous range. For enhanced accuracy, compatible phones can switch to Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology when in close proximity to the tag.

Joining the Galaxy Find Network, which boasts 900 million compatible devices globally, the SmartTag3 can send out pings that help locate missing items. Like its predecessor, this model comes with a built-in NFC tag, which allows users to activate Lost Mode. This feature displays contact information or a brief message when someone scans a tag marked as lost.

The SmartTag3 introduces a new Place Notification feature, alerting you when a tagged item enters or exits specified areas on a map—perfect for monitoring pets or managing home automation. Additionally, the Movement Detection Alert will inform you if a tagged item moves unexpectedly, while the Left Behind Alert notifies you when you’ve moved away from the item. The Location History feature enables users to track the movement path of tagged items.

With an IP67 rating, the SmartTag3 is both water- and dust-resistant, capable of withstanding submersion in water up to one meter (3 feet) for half an hour, making it resilient against the elements.

The SmartThings IoT control functionality allows users to activate routines by pressing the built-in button on the tag. Powering the device is a coin cell battery, now lasting up to 550 days before requiring replacement. Using Power Saving Mode, users can extend battery life to an impressive 790 days, surpassing its predecessor’s performance.

The Samsung SmartTag3 is set to launch in South Korea on October 7, with availability in the US to follow shortly after. It will also roll out to additional markets in the coming year, and comes in two colors: Black and White.
