Apple Enhances Satellite Services for Legacy iPhone Models

Apple has announced a significant development for users of older iPhones, as revealed in a footnote in the iPhone 18 Pro press release. The tech giant is extending its free satellite services for one additional year to select models, enabling users to continue benefiting from vital emergency communication features without charge.

iPhone owners with compatible devices from the 2022 iPhone 14 series onward will be able to access features such as Emergency SOS via satellite, Messages via satellite, Find My via satellite, and Roadside Assistance via satellite for at least another year. These features won’t incur any fees, provided the devices are activated before September 9, 2026.

This marks the third extension of free satellite access for the iPhone 14 series, with the iPhone 15 series also receiving a similar bonus last year following the introduction of the iPhone 17 series. Significantly, this recent extension is a first for the newly launched iPhone 16 generation.

While Apple categorizes these satellite features as a "free trial," the company has yet to clarify what the costs will be once this trial period ends. Users can take advantage of these critical functionalities, ensuring they remain connected in emergency situations.
