Apple has officially launched the much-anticipated iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, featuring a range of exciting new enhancements while maintaining a familiar design. Highlighted by an array of vibrant colors and advanced technology, these devices promise a premium user experience. Among the standout features are the powerful A20 Pro chip, a more compact Dynamic Island, and innovative variable-aperture main cameras, ensuring that the latest iPhones remain at the forefront of smartphone technology.
The new lineup introduces a striking burgundy hero color, accompanied by glacier blue, black, and silver options, energizing the aesthetic appeal of the devices.
The iPhone 18 Pro series retains the exceptional 6.3 and 6.9-inch LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED displays with unchanged resolution, refresh rates, and brightness levels as seen in previous models. A notable change is the narrower Dynamic Island, now capable of displaying up to three live activities simultaneously. However, the selfie camera remains the 18MP module found in its predecessor.
At the heart of the iPhone 18 Pro series lies the groundbreaking Apple A20 Pro chip, manufactured using a 2nm process. This powerful chip boasts an additional CPU core, an upgraded GPU core, and a second neural engine, bringing the total CPU count to six with two “desktop-class” super cores. The 7-core GPU reportedly delivers a 40% improvement in graphics processing performance over the A19 Pro chip, while the new neural accelerators include dual Neural Engines operating with 32 cores and a 50% increase in memory bandwidth.
Apple has also made significant upgrades to thermal management by incorporating a next-gen vapor chamber that triples the area compared to the previous generation. This innovation is complemented by a revised silicon packaging approach inspired by M-series chips, enhancing the connection between the silicon and memory chip to the vapor chamber for improved heat dissipation.
Photography enthusiasts will appreciate the upgraded trio of 48MP cameras, with the primary camera now featuring a variable aperture. This advancement allows manual control with an aperture of up to f/4.0 and adjustable shutter speed, enhancing low-light performance by allowing up to 50% more light, and enabling cinematic video effects. Additional photographic styles now come with texture and grain controls for added creativity.
As is customary for Apple, detailed battery specifications remain scarce; however, the eSIM-only iPhone 18 Pro Max touts the “longest battery life” in iPhone history, claiming up to 45 hours of video playback. The eSIM 18 Pro offers an impressive 36 hours of video playback. Charging efficiency has also improved, allowing the devices to reach a 50% charge in just 15 minutes.
Software-wise, both models come equipped with iOS 27, featuring new Siri AI capabilities and Apple Intelligence functions. The updated Siri now supports a wide range of third-party applications and offers a dedicated app to store past conversations and maintain synchronization across Apple devices.
However, it is important to note that the new Siri service will not be available in the EU and China and is set to launch in beta later this month.
The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 for the 256GB storage variant, and the iPhone 18 Pro Max is priced at $1,299. Pre-orders are set to begin on September 12, with retail availability commencing on September 18.
