As Apple gears up for the much-anticipated launch of the iPhone Ultra, concerns are surfacing regarding its release in China. Similar to the complications faced by the iPhone Air, the Ultra may experience delays attributed to issues with eSIM technology and compliance regulations in the Chinese market.
The iPhone 15 series, available in the United States, has successfully transitioned to eSIM technology without significant issues. However, this has not been the case in China, where the iPhone Air was introduced as the first eSIM-only model. This model faced several delays due to compliance hurdles.
According to reports from Instant Digital on Weibo, Apple is likely to encounter similar complications with the iPhone Ultra. The initial rollout of the iPhone Air highlighted that the processes for activating, replacing, and transferring eSIMs were not as user-friendly as expected, leading to customer frustrations.
The iPhone Ultra is set to join the ranks as Apple's second eSIM-exclusive phone in China, indicating that it could inherit the same eSIM challenges. The company's plans to unveil the iPhone Ultra and two models of the iPhone 18 Pro are underway, with the event scheduled for tomorrow, and pre-orders anticipated to begin on Friday, September 11.
In addition to regulatory challenges, reports suggest that supply constraints may further restrict the launch timeline. Rumors indicate that Apple may need to prioritize launching the Ultra in the U.S. before rolling it out to other significant markets, including China.
