This year, the Norwegian media outlet Motor.no, in collaboration with the Norwegian Automobile Federation, conducted its annual winter range test, pitting various electric vehicles (EVs) against one another under harsh winter conditions. The objective of this test is to assess how closely real-world performance aligns with the optimistic WLTP range figures that manufacturers often advertise.
Among participating vehicles, the Tesla Model S Long Range (LR) emerged as the standout, surpassing the previous record set by the Model 3 LR Dual Motor in 2021 by traveling 530 kilometers. Interestingly, the Model S had to contend with some limitations, notably being unable to charge beyond 98% during the test.
Norway's challenging winter conditions proved ideal for thorough testing, with average temperatures ranging from -5°C to -10°C, and a few segments of the route dipping as low as -19°C. The route, which weaves through the picturesque landscapes surrounding Oslo and the Rondane National Park, was the same as in previous years.

The results were a mixed bag for various manufacturers. While the Tesla Model S showcased commendable efficiency with only a 16.40% deviation from its advertised range, other vehicles like the Mercedes EQE 300 faced significant challenges, experiencing a 33.39% drop. The Toyota bZ4X 2WD, in particular, struggled severely, losing 35.79% of its range, prompting the company to consider updates before further testing. The presence of numerous Chinese-made vehicles such as the JAC e-JS4 and Nio ET7, which are set to launch in Europe, indicates a growing competition in the EV market.
