Samsung Revives Exynos Chips for Upcoming Galaxy S27 Ultra, Reports Suggest
In a surprising turn of events, Samsung has decided to implement its in-house Exynos 2700 chipset in the upcoming Galaxy S27 Ultra, following previously planned exclusive reliance on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6. This strategic move comes as development for the flagship device nears completion.
According to insiders speaking to the Korean news outlet MoneyToday, Samsung’s Mobile Experience (MX) division and the System LSI division are working collaboratively to integrate the Exynos-based motherboard for the Galaxy S27 Ultra, ensuring a sufficient supply of this proprietary chip.
As it stands, the S27 Ultra will feature a dual-sourcing strategy, where devices in the US will continue to utilize the Snapdragon chip, while models destined for Korea and Europe will be equipped with the Exynos variant. This marks a significant return to the dual-chip approach, as the Galaxy S22 Ultra was the last in the S lineup to offer an Exynos option.

One insider highlighted the unusual nature of incorporating the Exynos variant at this late stage in development, indicating a strong confidence in the performance of the new application processor (AP). The regular Galaxy S27, S27+, and the new S27 Pro will also blend Snapdragon and Exynos chipsets in their respective markets.
The Exynos 2700 is manufactured using Samsung’s enhanced 2nm SF2P technology, boasting a 26% reduction in power consumption along with a 15% increase in clock speeds, contributing to better overall efficiency.
As for design, CAD-based renders reveal that the Galaxy S27 Ultra maintains a similar size to the S26 Ultra, with enhancements expected. One notable upgrade is in the camera setup, where the outdated 10MP 3x telephoto camera is being replaced, leaving a stronger focus on the remaining 50MP 5x telephoto camera.
