Introduction
As Qualcomm gears up for its annual Snapdragon Summit scheduled from September 22-24 in Hawaii, excitement is building around the introduction of new flagship mobile chipsets. Recent leaks have revealed details about a new chip, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, and how it is performing in real-world tests through devices like the iQOO 16.
Qualcomm is expected to unveil two flagship chips at the summit, with part numbers SM8950 and SM8975. The SM8975 recently made headlines by appearing on both AnTuTu and Geekbench benchmarks, fueling speculations about its capabilities.
The Geekbench database lists an unnamed device with model number vivo V2606A, which is believed to be the upcoming iQOO 16. This device features Android 17 and comes equipped with 16GB of RAM alongside the SM8975 chip, previously referred to as the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro. However, recent insights from tipster Digital Chat Station suggest a new name: Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. The other chip, SM8950, is anticipated to be called Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6.
In terms of specifications, Geekbench reveals that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 operates with eight cores—two at a peak clock speed of 5.01GHz, three cores at 4.03GHz, and the remaining three at 3.74GHz.
Alleged iQOO 16 on Geekbench
The Geekbench results show that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6-powered iQOO 16 achieved a score of 3,434 in the single-core test and 9,334 in the multi-core test. For context, the iQOO 15, which is powered by the earlier Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, scored 3,643 and 10,466 in the same tests.

The iQOO 16 registered on Geekbench is likely a prototype, which may account for its lower performance in the benchmark scores. The final retail version is expected to perform better, and while earlier rumors suggested a launch in September, nothing official has been announced by the brand just yet.
