In a move to bolster user security, WhatsApp has unveiled a series of enhanced features aimed at protecting user accounts and providing better call management. These updates emphasize robust verification methods and improved information accessibility, helping users confidently navigate their communications.
The first major update focuses on strengthening two-step verification. Instead of the previous six-digit PIN, users will now create a stronger password that is not only longer but also incorporates alphanumeric characters and special symbols. This upgrade significantly reduces the likelihood of unauthorized access to user accounts.
Additionally, WhatsApp is enhancing call security by providing more detailed information about incoming calls from unknown numbers. When receiving a call from a number not saved in a user’s contacts, the app will display valuable details such as the caller’s origin and any mutual group connections. This feature, aimed at curbing scam calls, is currently exclusive to Android users.
In further efforts to enhance security, WhatsApp is advocating for the use of passkeys. These allow users to log back into their accounts using biometric methods like fingerprints or facial recognition, eliminating the need for codes or PINs. With over a billion users having already adopted this feature, individuals can now register multiple passkeys to accommodate different devices, such as Android and iOS. This option can be easily accessed by navigating to Settings > Account > Passkeys.
