In a significant update, WhatsApp has announced that its web platform now supports audio and video calls, enhancing the overall user experience. This long-awaited feature is completely integrated into WhatsApp Web, requiring no additional downloads or installations. Alongside call support, the update also introduces screen sharing, emoji reactions, and a dedicated Calls tab that allows users to access their full call history and favorites.
As with the mobile app, all calls made through WhatsApp Web are protected by end-to-end encryption, ensuring privacy and security. Users can enjoy unlimited calls without any associated costs and can seamlessly transfer calls between devices—whether moving from mobile to desktop or vice versa—without needing to disconnect.
Another exciting feature is the ability to create a WhatsApp call link that includes an option to require approval for participants to join the call. When this option is activated, individuals will enter a waiting room until they receive approval to join. Additionally, a new noise suppression feature will filter out background sounds, enhancing audio clarity during calls, and can be adjusted in the in-call settings.
For video calls, users can now experience HD quality right from the start of the call, eliminating the lag previously associated with high-definition video activation. WhatsApp has stated that these updates will be rolled out gradually, with full availability expected soon.
