This year, Motorola's software update policy has become increasingly difficult to navigate.
Consider the recently announced Edge 70 Max. The product pages on Motorola's UK, German, and Indian websites all claim "up to 3 Android OS upgrades and 5 years of security updates." However, if you scroll down to the footnotes on those same pages, you'll find that the product actually "includes 2 OS upgrades and 3 years of security updates."
Motorola Edge 70 Max: UK website showing conflicting software update information
This contradiction has understandably confused potential buyers and sparked criticism from media outlets such as PhoneArena and Android Authority. Instead of quickly pointing fingers at poor software support, it seems Motorola is struggling to clarify its commitments.
Motorola Edge 70 Max: Indian website also shows conflicting software update information
Regrettably, this issue isn't isolated. We have previously encountered similar discrepancies with the Razr 70, Razr 70 Ultra, and Edge 70 Pro (known as the Edge 70 Pro+ in India), where Motorola's regional websites, support pages, and even EPREL listings presented contradictory information or incomplete details.
Our attempts to clarify the update commitments through Motorola's standard PR channels usually hit a wall, suggesting that the communication issues extend beyond public-facing websites and that there is no clear internal information either.
It appears Motorola struggles to provide consistent information across different platforms, necessitating improved efforts in this area. Alternatively, it may be more convenient for them to keep conflicting information available to avoid making an explicit commitment. However, we are willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and hope their publication team can better manage the situation.

Regardless of the reason behind this confusion, Motorola cannot afford negative publicity and must prioritize delivering clear and consistent software support information across all its official channels.
As software update commitments become a critical factor for smartphone consumers, contradictory messaging only serves to undermine confidence. The confusion surrounding the Edge 70 Max highlights that customers are closely monitoring these issues, making consistency more crucial than ever.
