Earlier this month, a media report indicated that Realme UI would merge with Oppo's ColorOS to reduce research and development costs. In a recent meeting, Realme India confirmed that upcoming Realme smartphones will indeed launch with ColorOS—specifically, ColorOS 17.
This strategic move aims to streamline operations and simplify the update process. While the brand has not disclosed which specific Realme smartphone will be the first to debut with ColorOS 17, it is anticipated that ColorOS 17 will initially appear on Oppo devices.
Additionally, Realme has confirmed that ColorOS 17 will be rolled out to existing smartphones that are eligible for operating system upgrades. For instance, the Realme GT 8 Pro, launched last year with Realme UI 7.0 and promising four Android OS upgrades, will receive the ColorOS 17 update and subsequent versions.

From a user's perspective, we expect minimal changes, as Realme UI is quite similar to ColorOS; the differences are not drastic. In fact, early Realme smartphones were originally launched with ColorOS before the transition to Realme UI in 2020.

The Realme 3 Pro and Realme XT were the first devices to transition to Realme UI, while the Realme C3 was the inaugural smartphone to launch with Realme UI out of the box.
It is important to note that Realme India's confirmation regarding the switch to ColorOS is currently applicable only in India; however, it is likely that this change will extend to other markets in the future.
