During an event in Malaysia, Huawei unveiled its flagship Pura 90s series smartphones, along with the FreeClip 2 S Signature Edition and MatePad Air (2026). These products are more of a refresh than complete generational upgrades.

The FreeClip 2 S earbuds continue to feature dual-diaphragm drivers and three microphones for noise cancellation, offering up to 9 hours of playback. With the charging case, users can enjoy a total of 38 hours of listening time.

One significant update is the new Adaptive Volume algorithm. The earbuds utilize Huawei's third-generation audio chip, which includes a dedicated NPU for AI processing. This enhancement enables features like real-time awareness and automatic volume adjustments during calls. For instance, the FreeClip 2 S can detect ambient sounds and modify the volume accordingly, which is especially beneficial since they lack passive noise isolation.

Additionally, the FreeClip 2 S is now available in new colors: Deepsea Blue and Space Silver. Users can also purchase new clip-on accessories designed by the French jewelry house, Les Néréides, which provide a distinctive look to the earbuds. The redesigned charging case is slightly larger to accommodate these clip-ons.

Turning to the MatePad Air (2026), it features only minor upgrades compared to its 2025 predecessor. The most significant enhancement is the introduction of the PaperMatte OLED display, which is now part of the MatePad Air lineup for the first time. This matte-coated display is well-suited for both productivity and reading, marking a substantial improvement over the previous LCD panels. The screen retains its 12-inch diagonal size, boasting a 144Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 2800 x 1840 pixels.

For budget-conscious consumers, Huawei will offer the MatePad Air without the PaperMatte display option.

The battery capacity remains unchanged at 10,100 mAh, along with 66W fast charging capabilities. The device is powered by the Kirin T93C chipset, which enables "Pro-level AI features" to enhance productivity and creativity.

Huawei has also promoted some design modifications, including thinner bezels, a sleeker profile (5.3mm), and new color options in Airy Blue, Sakura Pink, and White. The device will retail at €849 for the 8GB/256GB model without the PaperMatte display, which includes a keyboard. The PaperMatte Edition, available at an additional €50, also comes with a keyboard or the option of an M-Pencil Pro. The pricing for the 12GB RAM variant starts at €999, which includes only a keyboard.

The FreeClip 2 S will be available for £169 from July 14 until August 17, with a regular price of £199. A limited-edition bundle including a pair of Les Néréides clip-ons will also be available for £199.
