Samsung Health Users Face Data Deletion Unless They Consent to AI Training

Source: Date:

Some Samsung Health users are encountering a notice upon launching the app, requesting their consent for the use of their health data in AI training and modeling. Users who choose not to provide consent will not only be unable to sync their health data with their Samsung accounts but will also face the risk of losing it permanently, as it will be deleted.

If users consent, Samsung will collect health and wellness data, medication information, health records, and cycle tracking data. According to Samsung, the collected health data will be utilized for AI training and modeling, including human review, to enhance the Samsung Health app, improve algorithms for analyzing health conditions, and refine AI features.

Users can withdraw their consent at any time by going to Samsung Health settings > Privacy and disabling the toggle for the option labeled "Consent to the use of health data for AI training and modeling." If consent is withdrawn, a warning will appear on the screen, informing users that they will no longer be able to sync their health data with their Samsung account and that it will be deleted unless legally required to retain it.

Although Samsung is expected to anonymize the collected data and not link it to specific individuals, many Samsung Health users may not appreciate the company's apparent insistence on obtaining consent for AI training.
