Verizon Faces Service Outage in Southern U.S. Following Fiber Cut
Verizon is currently experiencing significant service interruptions across various regions in the southern United States, particularly in West Texas. This disruption, caused by a fiber cut, has left many customers without mobile connectivity, forcing them to rely on Wi-Fi for communication. As the company works to resolve the issue, frustration among subscribers is mounting, with complaints flooding in regarding the reliability of their service.
UPDATE: A fiber cut has led to service disruptions across West Texas, affecting cities like Amarillo, Odessa, San Angelo, and Midland. Verizon is actively working to fix the issues that are causing mobile outages and SOS mode alerts on customer devices.
Widespread Service Issues in Southern U.S.
Verizon subscribers are facing difficulties with their service today. According to Downdetector, a user from South Atlanta reported that his iPhone is in SOS mode, indicating no connection to a cellular network. Since 3:15 PM, he has only been able to make calls via FaceTime or Google Meet through Wi-Fi.
Another user in Odessa, Texas, reported relying solely on Wi-Fi calling, while customers in Lubbock and Amarillo are also experiencing complete loss of mobile tower signals. Reports indicate that 51% of the issues are related to mobile phones, 18% are experiencing no signals, and 16% are facing difficulties with their 5G home internet.
Subscriber Frustration Grows
The outage has led to dissatisfaction among customers, some of whom are voicing their frustrations on Downdetector. One user threatened legal action, stating, "I’m suing Verizon; this is beyond ridiculous." Another expressed frustration about being locked in SOS mode for over three hours in Big Spring, TX, and remarked that tech support confirmed they are working on the issue.
Not only does the loss of wireless connectivity disrupt communications, but it can also lead to financial setbacks. A user from Odessa noted that while away from Wi-Fi, many people depend on their phones to earn money and are losing income due to the outage.
